What is the biggest misconception about the industry?
The biggest misconception in the legal industry is that we are solely litigators. An attorney’s role in the construction industry starts from the very beginning minimizing risk for litigation. In order to do that, we are consistently advising our clients by ensuring that insurance is in place, negotiating and preparing contracts, dealing with employee issues, regulatory agency interaction, code and compliance issues, and serving as general counsel for contractors, subcontractors, and design professionals. So much is changing in the construction industry, that it is necessary to have an attorney to keep up with regulatory changes, new laws, and construction guidelines. By minimizing risks and litigation we are helping our clients save significant money in the long run. We’re more than just litigators. We are trusted business advisors.

How does your ABC membership help your company?
ABC Metropolitan has allowed us a platform to get in front of prospective clients through their various networking events. Several of our associate attorneys have even attended ABC Young Professionals XYZ events to network with other young professionals. We have also received significant exposure through ABC’s Building Washington publication and by receiving a spot in the Membership Directory. We are considered thought leaders in this industry and would like to seek out more opportunities through our ABC membership to start a discussion about the hot button legal issues in the construction industry and best practices to minimize risk by either writing articles or presenting.
